Future Self is a private space to talk with an AI version of your future self. What you write there is intimate, and this policy is written to be read — not skimmed past. The short version: your words belong to you, we don't run ads, we don't sell or share data for advertising, we don't track you across other apps, and no AI model is ever trained on your content.
Future Self is operated by Matěj Hyťha (sole proprietor, Czech Republic — "we"). Contact: support@thefutureself.app. We are the data controller for the personal data described here.
To write a reply, the app sends the relevant parts of your profile, your current entry, and a handful of your past entries to OpenAI (our AI processor). Per OpenAI's API terms, API data is not used to train their models. Every entry is also screened by an automated safety system; if it indicates a crisis, the app shows help resources instead of an AI reply. Your data is stored with Supabase on servers in the European Union, encrypted in transit and at rest, and isolated per account (row-level security).
Your content is kept while your account exists — the whole point is a future self that remembers. You can permanently delete your account and all its data anytime in Settings → Delete account & all data; this removes your account, entries, replies, goals, capsules, memory index and events from our servers. You can also export your data as JSON in Settings → Export my data.
Under GDPR (and equivalent laws) you have the right to access, correct, export, delete, and object to processing of your personal data. The export and delete rights are built into the app; for anything else, email support@thefutureself.app. You can lodge a complaint with your local data-protection authority (in the Czech Republic: ÚOOÚ).
Future Self is for people 17 and older. We don't knowingly process data of anyone younger; if that happens, contact us and we'll delete it.
Future Self is a reflection tool, not a medical or therapeutic service, and the AI is not a person. If you're in crisis, the app points you to real help (Settings → Get help now), and we'd rather you talk to a human: in the US call or text 988, in the UK ring Samaritans on 116 123.
If this policy changes materially, we'll note it in the app and update the version and date here. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated policy.
